Prince Albert II of Monaco and his wife Princess Charlene have made a joint outing with their twin children in the principality as the head of state battles the coronavirus.
The royal family were all smiles as they attended an event in Monaco to mark the official opening of the new ‘Sea Cleaners’ project, which sees a fleet of boats equipped with the latest technology to collect waste at sea.
The Prince, 61, who contracted COVID-19 earlier this month, was not present at the event and is still in self-isolation. However, Princess Charlene, 43, attended with their children, Jacques, 5 and Gabriella, 5.
The Princess wore a bright pink summer dress for the occasion and was seen carrying a bag with a copy of the Sea Cleaners project. She also donned a white face mask as a precaution against the virus. Jacques and Gabriella were also dressed in their best and were seen playing in the sand with a shovel and a bucket.
The event was attended by a number of royal officials, including Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein and Prince Albert’s sister, Princess Stephanie.
Although Prince Albert is currently unable to be present due to his illness, the royal family are determined to show their support for the new project, which is aimed at protecting Monaco’s marine environment.
The Prince’s appearance at the opening had been widely expected and the royal family are hopeful that he will make a full recovery soon. The Prince’s health is said to be improving and he is expected to make a full recovery.
It is thought that the Princess and their children’s presence at the event was a show of solidarity and a way of showing their support for the project. The family have been keeping a close eye on Prince Albert’s condition, with the Prince’s press secretary assuring that he would make a full recovery.
