Preview: England Aim to Continue Winning Streak in 1st South Africa ODI

Match Preview – South Africa vs England, England in South Africa 2022/23, 1st ODI

The South African and English cricket teams will face off for the first time in the upcoming One Day International Series, beginning in Johannesburg on the 3rd of December, 2022. This will be the first bilateral series between the two countries since England’s tour of South Africa in 2016.

Both teams have had very different performances in the format in recent years, with South Africa emerging as a top-tier side in ODIs and England struggling to maintain consistency. South Africa have had a strong showing in the format, having won their last few ODI series, including a 3-2 victory over India in 2018 and a 5-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka in 2020.

England, on the other hand, have been up and down in their ODI performance, winning some series while losing others. They have recently lost 2-1 to India in 2021 and 3-2 to Australia earlier this year.

The South African squad will be led by experienced batsman Faf du Plessis and bolstered by the inclusion of veteran wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock, who has consistently been one of their best performers in the format.

England will rely heavily on the batting of their captain Eoin Morgan and the bowling of Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer. Morgan has been a consistent performer for England in ODIs, while Broad and Archer have been among the top wicket-takers for the team in the recent past.

The first ODI between the two teams will be a closely contested affair, with both sides looking to gain the upper hand in the series. With a mixture of experienced and younger players in both squads, expect an exciting game of cricket come the 3rd of December.
