I Am the Problem; It Is Me

‘I am the problem. It’s me’: Senators quote Taylor Swift during Ticketmaster hearing

Representatives from Ticketmaster, Live Nation Entertainment, and several other companies testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday regarding the high cost of concerts and the impact of ticket bots on the music industry.

Several senators quoted Taylor Swift during the hearing, including Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) who quoted Swift’s lyrics from her song “I’m the Problem.”

“I’m the problem. It’s me.”

“I’m the reason the tickets are so expensive. I’m the one who’s constantly trying to outbid you,” he said.

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) also quoted Swift, saying, “The businesses that use bots to purchase tickets oftentimes go to great lengths to conceal their activity. Bots buy tickets in bulk and then resell them at a significant markup, sometimes hundreds ofpercent.”

Grassley added, “This practice hurts not only the fans who can’t get the tickets they want, but also the artists and venues that rely on ticket sales to support their operations.”
