Cops granted more time to quiz gunman, 27, arrested after ‘bomb’ found outside hospital maternity unit…

Police have been granted more time to question a 27-year-old man who was arrested after a suspicious device was found outside a hospital maternity unit.

The man was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday and taken into custody following the discovery of the device outside St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London.

Police have been granted an extra 36 hours to question the suspect, who is being held on suspicion of the manufacture of explosives.

The device, which was found outside the hospital’s maternity unit on Monday, was initially thought to be a bomb but was later declared “non-suspicious” after being examined by explosives experts.

Police have not yet revealed details of the device, but have said it did not present any danger to the public.

The extra time granted to police will allow them to question the suspect further and hopefully shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The arrest is not believed to be linked to terrorism and police have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The suspect is currently being held in custody at a south London police station.
