Victoria Alonso, 20, is vowing to add the Saudi International Jockeys Challenge to her family trophy cabinet. The event, which is taking place Oct. 12-14 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., will feature eight of the world’s best jockeys competing in a series of races. “The Saudis have been having a lot of success lately with their horses, so it will be exciting to see how the competition stacks up,” Alonso said. “My dad is a big racing fan, so I’m sure he’ll be cheering for the Saudis.” Alonso, a sophomore at Florida International University, is the daughter of former international speed skater Rudy Alonso and niece of Formula One driver Fernando Alonso. Alonso, who is also a competitive equestrian rider, is looking to add the Saudi International Jockeys Challenge to her racing resume. “I’ve always been interested in horse racing and racing in general,” Alonso said. “This is a great way to get my name out there and see how I stack up against the best in the world.”
